Palo Santo is a mystical tree that grows in South America and has been used for centuries by indigenous people for its spiritual and healing properties. The smoke from palo santo is believed to have a purifying and cleansing effect on the energy of a space. Here are some steps on how to use palo santo to add healing energy to your physical space:
1. Choose high-quality palo santo: It is important to choose palo santo that is sustainably harvested and ethically sourced. Look for a reputable supplier that supports fair trade practices. (Try etsy)
2. Set your intention: Before lighting the palo santo, set your intention for what you want to accomplish. This can include bringing in positive energy AND removing negative energy. I personally find Sage to be a more "forceful" or thorough energy cleanser, but if you don't like the smell or you are traveling, Palo Santo is a great choice. It is not as strong and forceful as Sage. I usually clear energy with Sage and replace or set new energy with Palo Santo after space is cleared. Don't stress - anything your intuition guides you to do will be perfect for you! There are no "wrongs" in this game!
3. Prepare the space: Open windows or doors to allow for good ventilation. You may also want to light some candles or dim the lights to create a peaceful ambiance.
4. Light the palo santo: Hold the palo santo stick at a 45-degree angle and light the end. Allow it to burn for about 30 seconds, then blow out the flame. You should see a gentle smoke emanating from the stick. Keep the lighter with you - Palo Santo doesn't stay lit the same way that Sage does. If you need the smolder to last longer than a few seconds, re-light as many times as needed.
5. Walk around the space: Hold the palo santo stick and walk around the space, focusing on areas that feel heavy or stagnant. Use a feather or your hand to help distribute the smoke evenly. I usually draw in overall "high vibrations" with it.
6. Set the palo santo down: Place the palo santo in a fireproof dish or container and let it burn out on its own. Do not blow it out as this may scatter ashes and embers.
7. Close the ritual: Once the palo santo has burned out, close your ritual by expressing gratitude for the energy and for the Palo Santo that you used. It is often mis-used so it's important to replenish the stick's positive energy. Thank it for the positive energy that has been brought into the space.
Using palo santo is a wonderful way to add healing energy to your home or office. By setting your intention and working with the smoke, you can create a peaceful and harmonious environment that supports your well-being. Cheers!
